Harry ALGER (c. 1851-c. 1930)

 

Harry ALGER was born c. 1851 in Palgrave, Suffolk. He appeared in the census in 1881 at Diss Road in Palgrave - 30, gardener, living with wife Caroline (29) and children Elizabeth (7, scholar), Harry Henry (6,scholar), Maryann (4, scholar), James (3), Florence (2) and Sydney (10 mos).1 He appeared in the census in 1891 at Mount Street in Diss, Norfolk - 40, gardener, living with wife Caroline (39) and children Elizabeth (17, stay maker), Harry H (16, serve bricklayer), James (13, serve baker), Florence (12, scholar), Sydney (10), John Ed (9), Thomas (8) and Alice (6).2 He died c. 1930. He married Caroline BELL.

 

 

Caroline BELL was born c. 1852 in Diss. She appeared in the census in 1881 at Diss Road in Palgrave - 29, living with husband Harry (30, gardener) and children Elizabeth (7, scholar), Harry Henry (6,scholar), Maryann (4, scholar), James (3), Florence (2) and Sydney (10 mos).1 She appeared in the census in 1891 at Mount Street in Diss - 39, living with husband Harry (40, gardener) and children Elizabeth (17, stay maker), Harry H (16, serve bricklayer), James (13, serve baker), Florence (12, scholar), Sydney (10), John Ed (9), Thomas (8) and Alice (6).2 She died c. 1931. Elizabeth was born on 26 Oct 1871 in Palgrave.3 She appeared in the census in 1881 at Diss Road in Palgrave - 7, scholar, living with parents Harry (30, gardener) and Caroline (29), and siblings Harry Henry (6,scholar), Maryann (4, scholar), James (3), Florence (2) and Sydney (10 mos).1 She appeared in the census in 1891 at Mount Street in Diss - 17, stay maker, living with parents Harry (40, gardener) and Caroline (39), and siblings Harry H (16, serve bricklayer), James (13, serve baker), Florence (12, scholar), Sydney (10), John Ed (9), Thomas (8) and Alice (6).2 She experienced 1939 Registration in 1939 in Diss.3 domestic duties, b. 26.10.1871, living with sister Florence (district nurse (retired), b. 02.11.1878, war role: Red Cross Nurse) and Sarah R RUBIN (certificated teacher, b. 02.02.1915).

Maryann ALGER (c. 1876- ). Maryann was born c. 1876 in Palgrave. James ALGER (c. 1877-c. 1936). James was born c. 1877 in Palgrave. He appeared in the census in 1881 at Diss Road in Palgrave - 3, living with parents Harry (30, gardener) and Caroline (29), and siblings Elizabeth (7, scholar), Harry Henry (6,scholar), Maryann (4, scholar), Florence (2) and Sydney (10 mos).1 He appeared in the census in 1891 at Mount Street in Diss - 13, serve baker, living with parents Harry (40, gardener) and Caroline (39), and siblings Elizabeth (17, stay maker), Harry H (16, serve bricklayer), Florence (12, scholar), Sydney (10), John Ed (9), Thomas (8) and Alice (6).2 He died c. 1936.

 

 

Florence ALGER (1878-1963). Florence was born on 2 Nov 1878 in Palgrave.4 She appeared in the census in 1881 at Diss Road in Palgrave - 2, living with parents Harry (30, gardener) and Caroline (29), and siblings Elizabeth (7, scholar), Harry Henry (6,scholar), Maryann (4, scholar), James (3) and Sydney (10 mos).1 She appeared in the census in 1891 at Mount Street in Diss - 12, scholar, living with parents Harry (40, gardener) and Caroline (39), and siblings Elizabeth (17, stay maker), Harry H (16, serve bricklayer), James (13, serve baker), Sydney (10), John Ed (9), Thomas (8) and Alice (6).2 She appeared in the census in 1901 at Victoria Road in Diss - 22, housemaid domestic, living in the household of Mary JARRETT (84, living on own means).5 She appeared in the census in 1911 at Oxhey Grange in Watford, Hertfordshire - 32, parlourmaid domestic, living in the household of James Doyle PENROSE (48, artist painter).6 She appeared in the census in 1921 in Horham, Suffolk - 42, district nurse employed by the ESSEX County Nursing Association, a visitor in the household of Sidney Ernest CHAPMAN (30, farm labourer).7 She experienced 1939 Registration in 1939 in Diss.3 district nurse (retired), b. 02.11.1878, war role: Red Cross Nurse, living with Sister Elizabeth C (b. 26.10.1871, domestic duties) and Sarah R RUBIN (certificated teacher, b. 02.02.1915). Florence died on 13 Mar 1963 in Thorpe St. Andrew, Norfolk.8,9 She had her estate probated on 27 May 1963 in Norwich, Norfolk - "ALGER Florence of 32 Sunnyside Diss Norfolk spinster died 13 March 1963 at 214 Yarmouth Road Thorpe St. Andrew Norfolk Probate Norwich 27 May to John Malcolm James Downing baker and Stanley Thomas Clarke manufacturers clerk. Effects £981 11s.".8

 

 

Sydney ALGER (c. 1881-c. 1929). Sydney was born c. 1881 in Palgrave. He appeared in the census in 1881 at Diss Road in Palgrave - 10 mos, living with parents Harry (30, gardener) and Caroline (29), and siblings Elizabeth (7, scholar), Harry Henry (6,scholar), Maryann (4, scholar), James (3) and Florence (2).1 He appeared in the census in 1891 at Mount Street in Diss - 10, living with parents Harry (40, gardener) and Caroline (39), and siblings Elizabeth (17, stay maker), Harry H (16, serve bricklayer), James (13, serve baker), Florence (12, scholar), John Ed (9), Thomas (8) and Alice (6).2 He died c. 1929.

 

 

John Edward ALGER (c. 1882-c. 1958). John was born c. 1882 in Diss. He appeared in the census in 1891 at Mount Street in Diss - 9, living with parents Harry (40, gardener) and Caroline (39), and siblings Elizabeth (17, stay maker), Harry H (16, serve bricklayer), James (13, serve baker), Florence (12, scholar), Sydney (10), Thomas (8) and Alice (6).2 He died c. 1958.

 

 

Thomas ALGER (c. 1883-c. 1960). Thomas was born c. 1883 in Diss. He appeared in the census in 1891 at Mount Street in Diss - 8, living with parents Harry (40, gardener) and Caroline (39), and siblings Elizabeth (17, stay maker), Harry H (16, serve bricklayer), James (13, serve baker), Florence (12, scholar), Sydney (10), John Ed (9) and Alice (6).2 He died c. 1960.

 

 

Alice ALGER (c. 1885-c. 1941). Alice was born c. 1885 in Diss. She appeared in the census in 1891 at Mount Street in Diss - 6, living with parents Harry (40, gardener) and Caroline (39), and siblings Elizabeth (17, stay maker), Harry H (16, serve bricklayer), James (13, serve baker), Florence (12, scholar), Sydney (10), John Ed (9) and Thomas (8).2 She died c. 1941.
