The marriage was witnessed by Horace LANCHESTER and Eliza Jane LANCHESTER. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. W W TYLER.7,8 She appeared in the census in 1901 at Lodge Farm Cottage in Kenninghall - 25, living with husband James (32, teamster on farm) and sons Robert (1) and Leonard (8 mos).9 She appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 35, living with husband James (41, horseman on farm) and children Leonard (10, scholar), Frederick G (8), Charles Biggs (6), Hilda Mary (5), Alfred (3), Norman Thomas (2), James (1) and Albert Edward (4 mos) - 14 children to couple, 10 still living.10 In 1919 the Electoral Register showed her living at Diss Road, Kenninghall, Norfolk. In 1925 the Electoral Register showed her living at The Street, Fersfield, Norfolk. In 1931 the Electoral Register showed her living at Hall Cottages, Fersfield, Norfolk - qualification by residency and by husband's occupation. Frances was recorded on the 1939 Register living at Lodge Cottages in Fersfield, Norfolk. - domestic duties, b. 19.06.1875.1 Frances died c. 1954.11

 

 

James LANCHESTER, son of Walter LANCHESTER (c. 1831- ) and Mary WRIGHT (c. 1833- ), was born on 21 Aug 1868 in Fersfield.12 He appeared in the census in 1871 at The Street in Fersfield - 2, living with parents Walter (40, agricultural labourer) and Mary (38), and siblings Henry (8, scholar) and Ann (5, scholar).13 He was baptised on 30 Nov 1877 in Fersfield.14 He appeared in the census in 1881 at Bateses Lane in Fersfield - 12, farm labourer, living with parents Walter (47, farm labourer) and Mary 45), and brothers Horace (9, scholar) and Herbert (7, scholar).15 He appeared in the census in 1891 at Bates Lane in Fersfield - 20, agricultural labourer, living with parents Walter (58, agricultural labourer) and Mary (58), and brothers Harry (27, agricultural labourer), Herbert (16, agricultural labourer) and William (12, scholar).16 He appeared in the census in 1901 at Lodge Farm Cottage in Kenninghall - 32, teamster on farm, living with wife Frances (25) and sons Robert (1) and Leonard (8 mos).9 He appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 41, horseman on farm, living with wife Frances Maria (35) and children Leonard (10, scholar), Frederick G (8), Charles Biggs (6), Hilda Mary (5), Alfred (3), Norman Thomas (2), James (1) and Albert Edward (4 mos) - 14 children to couple, 10 still living.10 In 1919 the Electoral Register showed him living at Diss Road, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Robert James LANCHESTER (c. 1899- ). Robert was born c. 1899 in Kenninghall. He appeared in the census in 1901 at Lodge Farm Cottage in Kenninghall - 1, living with parents James (32, teamster on farm) and Frances (25) and brother Leonard (8 mos).9 He appeared in the census in 1911 at Dam Green in Kenninghall - 11, scholar, living with grandparents Robert (71) and Mary (71), uncle Robert (45, farm labourer), and brother William (9, scholar).18

 

 

Leonard LANCHESTER (c. 1901-c. 1970). Leonard was born c. 1901 in Kenninghall. He appeared in the census in 1901 at Lodge Farm Cottage in Kenninghall - 8 mos, living with parents James (32, teamster on farm) and Frances (25) and brother Robert (1).9 He appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 10, scholar, living with parents James (41, horseman on farm) and Frances Maria (35), and siblings Frederick G (8), Charles Biggs (6), Hilda Mary (5), Alfred (3), Norman Thomas (2), James (1) and Albert Edward (4 mos).10 On 6 Apr 1934 there was a newspaper report: Diss Express, 6 April 1934, page 12.

WEDDING

 

The marriage was somemnised at the Parish Church on Saturday by the Rev. H. Anderson (Rector) of Miss Mary Ann Collier, second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. Collier of Poplar, London and Mr. Leonard Lanchester, second son of Mrf. and Mrs. J. Lanchester of Fersfield Hall, Fersfield. The bride was given away by the bridegroom's father and she was attired in ankle length white satin, veil, coronet of orange blossom, shoes and hose to tone with dress. She carried a sheaf of white tulips. The bridesmaids, Miss Hilda Lanchester (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Marjorie Sutton (friend) wore ankle length brick coloured silk dresses, fawn picture hats trimmed with red flowers, black patent shoes and fawn coloured hose. Their bouquets were composed of daffodils.

 

The best man was Mr. James Lanchester (brother of the bridegroom).

 

The reception took place at the Prince of Wales, Old Buckenham. Leonard died c. 1970.

 

 

William Nelson LANCHESTER (1902-c. 1963). William was born on 19 Jan 1902 in Kenninghall. He appeared in the census in 1911 at Dam Green in Kenninghall - 9, scholar, living with grandparents Robert (71) and Mary (71), uncle Robert (45, farm labourer), and brother Robert LANCHESTER (11, scholar).18 He married Annie HALL on 20 Jan 1934 in Wrenthorpe St. Anne, West Yorkshire - bride 25, groom 32 and an engine driver.19 He was recorded on the 1939 Register living at 51 Wrenthorpe Road in Wakefield, Yorkshire. - road maintenance roller driver (W.R.C.C.), b. 19.01.1902.20 William died c. 1963.

 

 

Frederick George LANCHESTER (c. 1903-c. 1988). Frederick was born c. 1903 in Kenninghall. He appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 8, living with parents James (41, horseman on farm) and Frances Maria (35), and siblings Leonard (10, scholar), Charles Biggs (6), Hilda Mary (5), Alfred (3), Norman Thomas (2), James (1) and Albert Edward (4 mos).10 In 1931 the Electoral Register showed him living at Hall Cottages, Fersfield, Norfolk - qualification by residency. Frederick died c. 1988.

 

 

Charles Briggs LANCHESTER (c. 1904-c. 1977). Charles was born c. 1904 in Kenninghall. He appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 6, living with parents James (41, horseman on farm) and Frances Maria (35), and siblings Leonard (10, scholar), Frederick G (8), Hilda Mary (5), Alfred (3), Norman Thomas (2), James (1) and Albert Edward (4 mos).10 He died c. 1977.

 

 

Hilda Mary LANCHESTER (1906-c. 2001). Hilda was born on 1 Jan 1906 in Kenninghall.21 She was baptised on 28 Jan 1910 in Kenninghall. - b. 01.01.1906.21 Hilda appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 5, living with parents James (41, horseman on farm) and Frances Maria (35), and brothers Leonard (10, scholar), Frederick G (8), Charles Biggs (6), Alfred (3), Norman Thomas (2), James (1) and Albert Edward (4 mos).10 In 1931 the Electoral Register showed her living at Hall Cottages, Fersfield, Norfolk - qualification by residency. Hilda died c. 2001.

 

 

Alfred John LANCHESTER (1907-c. 2000). Alfred was born on 17 Mar 1907 in Kenninghall. He was baptised on 28 Jan 1910 in Kenninghall. - b. 17.03.1907.21 Alfred appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 3, living with parents James (41, horseman on farm) and Frances Maria (35), and siblings Leonard (10, scholar), Frederick G (8), Charles Biggs (6), Hilda Mary (5), Norman Thomas (2), James (1) and Albert Edward (4 mos).10 In 1931 the Electoral Register showed him living at Hall Cottages, Fersfield, Norfolk - qualification by residency. Alfred died c. 2000.

 

 

Norman Thomas LANCHESTER (1908-1980). Norman was born on 22 Aug 1908 in Kenninghall.1,22 He was baptised on 28 Jan 1910 in Kenninghall.21 He appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 2, living with parents James (41, horseman on farm) and Frances Maria (35), and siblings Leonard (10, scholar), Frederick G (8), Charles Biggs (6), Hilda Mary (5), Alfred (3), James (1) and Albert Edward (4 mos).10 In 1931 the Electoral Register showed him living at Hall Cottages, Fersfield, Norfolk - qualification by residency. Norman was recorded on the 1939 Register living at Lodge Cottages in Fersfield. - agricultural labourer, b. 22.08.1908.1 Norman died on 20 Dec 1980 in Bressingham, Norfolk.23 In the London Gazette in 1981 the following notice appeared: "

NOTICES UNDER THE TRUSTEE ACT 1925, s. 27

 

Notice is hereby given pursuant to s. 27 of the Trustee Act, 1925, that any person having a claim against or an interest in the estate of any of the deceased persons whose names and address are set out .....

James LANCHESTER (1909- ). James was born on 20 Sep 1909 in Kenninghall.21 He was baptised on 28 Jan 1910 in Kenninghall. - b. 20.09.1909.21 James appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 1, living with parents James (41, horseman on farm) and Frances Maria (35), and siblings Leonard (10, scholar), Frederick G (8), Charles Biggs (6), Hilda Mary (5), Alfred (3), Norman Thomas (2) and Albert Edward (4 mos).10 In 1931 the Electoral Register showed him living at Hall Cottages, Fersfield, Norfolk - qualification by residency. WEDDING

 

A pretty wedding was solemnised at the High Street Methodist Church on Saturday, the contracting parties being Mr. James Lanchester, 8th son of Mr. and Mrs. James Lanchester, of Fersfield Hall and Miss Marjorie Ruth Sutton, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. Sutton, of Pulham.

 

The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. B. Sutton, of Kenninghall, was attired in a white satin dress, with shoes to match, a veil and coronet of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums and white heather. She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss H. Lanchester sister of the bridegroom and Miss E. Sutton sister of the bride who wore lemon satin dresses with mob caps with tulle and silver leaves, and black patent shoes. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. A. H. Beardsley and the hymns "O Father , all creating" and "O Perfect love" were sung, Mrs. W. Moss being at the organ.

 

The reception was afterwards held at Fersfield Hall, when 34 guests were present. The happy pair were the recipients of many useful and beautiful presents.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Lanchester will make their home at Worstead, Norfolk. James married Marjorie Ruth SUTTON.

 

 

Albert Edward LANCHESTER (1910-2006). Albert was born on 9 Nov 1910 in Kenninghall.1 He appeared in the census in 1911 at Kenninghall Lodge in Kenninghall - 4 mos, living with parents James (41, horseman on farm) and Frances Maria (35), and siblings Leonard (10, scholar), Frederick G (8), Charles Biggs (6), Hilda Mary (5), Alfred (3), Norman Thomas (2) and James (1).10 He was recorded on the 1939 Register living at Lodge Cottages in Fersfield. - agricultural labourer, b. 09.11.1910.1 Frm 2003 to 2006 the Electoral Register showed him living at 11 School Road, Bressingham, IP22 2AR. Albert died on 25 Nov 2006 in Bressingham.25 He is commorated in St. John the Baptist Churchyard, Bressingham, Norfolk - "ALBERT / EDWARD LANCHESTER / (TED) / DIED 25th NOVEMBER 2006 / AGED 96 YEARS / Life’s work well done".26

 

 

Walter LANCHESTER (1914-c. 1988). Walter was born on 10 May 1914.1,27 He was recorded on the 1939 Register living at Lodge Cottages in Fersfield. - agricultural labourer, b. 10.05.1914.1 Walter died c. 1988.27

 

 

Russell LANCHESTER (1918-2009). Russell was born on 12 Aug 1918.1,28 He was recorded on the 1939 Register living at Lodge Cottages in Fersfield. - agricultural labourer, b. 12.08.1918.1 Btw 2003 and 2008 the Electoral Register showed him living at 14 Chapel Road, Spooner Row, Norfolk NR18 9LN.29 In 2009 the Electoral Register showed him living at Melton House, 47 Melton Road, Wymondham NR18 0DB.30 Russell died on 27 May 2009 in Wymondham, Norfolk. He is commorated- "In Loving / Memory of / RUSSELL / LANCHESTER / 1918 - 2009 / Life's work well done".

 

 

Isabella F LANCHESTER (c. 1916-c. 1918). Isabella was born c. 1916.31 She died c. 1918.32
