The description of the two Lopham villages as given in the trade directory.
LOPHAM (NORTH) is a village and parish in the hundred of Guiltcross, 8½ miles south-east by south of East Harling, containing, by the last census, 832 inhabitants. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, is a noble edifice, with a square tower mostly built of flint. At the south entrance is an ancient Norman porch, and the exterior of the church and round the buttresses exhibit many Latin inscriptions. The living is a rectory, valued in 1831 at £642, with that of South Lopham annexed to it, in the patronage of Richard Barrow, Esq., and incumbency of the Rev. James Burow, M.A. The parish contains a Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist Chapels; also a Free School. This parish has long been celebrated for the manufacture of linen. Area, 1966 acres. The Duke of Norfolk is lord of manor.

LOPHAM (SOUTH) is a village and parish in the hundred of Guiltcross, 4 miles south-east by south of East Harling, containing 731 inhabitants in 1851. The church, dedicated to St. Andrew, is a spacious and ancient edifice, with handsome Norman tower rising between the nave and chancel, which contains six bells. The living is a rectory consolidated with North Lopham. There are 41A. 1R. 13P. of glebe. Here are some small charities. Area, 1932 acres, comprised in the same manor as North Lopham.
