WINFARTHING is a parish and village, distant 4 miles N. of Diss, in Diss Hundred and county court district, diocese of Norwich, archdeaconary of Norfolk, rural deanery of Redenhall, and Guiltcross union. The church, Virgin Mary, is an ancient edifice, with a fine square tower containing a peal of five bells; In the interior is a fine Norman font. The living is a rectory, in the gift of the Earl of Albemarl; the Rev. Ellice Keppel, M.A., is the rector. The tithes were coommuted in 1840, for £570 per annum; here are 30 acres of glebe. On the lodge farm may be seen two oak trees of extraordinary dimensions, and very great age. Here are chapels for the Wesleyans and Primitive Methodist; also a school in connection with the Church. The area of the parish is 2,583 acres. The Earl of Abemarl is lord of the manor. The population in 1871 was 597.Postal Regulations - Diss is the nearest money-order, telegraph office, and post town.
