| Military: | No service record has been found for Alfred. He is referred to in medal, absent voters and War Office Lists as serving with the 7th Suffold Regiment, Lance Corporal 18488. In a War Office Daily List (WODL) no. 5465, dated 14 January 1918, Alfred was reported missing in action. On 20 February 1918 he was confirmed in the WODL, no. 5497, a prisoner of war in German hands. He had been taken prisoner, unwounded, in 30 November 1917 and held in Friedrichsfeld camp, later listed in the camp roll on 24 April 1918. He was released and arrived in England on 10 December 1918. Alfred had been listed in the South Lopham Absent Voters list as: 4016; Murton, Alfred; Low Common; 18488 L.-Cpl., 7th Sfks. |
