Charles Wesley GILBERT, son of George GILBERT (1863-c. 1930) and Mary Eliza UNKNOWN (c. 1853- ), was born on 3 September 1889 in Woodbridge, Suffolk. He was baptised on 1 October 1889 in Woodbridge - parents George (warder) and Mary Eliza. Very little has been found relating to Charles' military service. No start date for his service has been found but evidence of his military service was first found in the 1918 Absent Voters list for North Lopham - 79289 Gnr., 121 Siege Batty. R.G.A. In the Tank Corps Service Medal and Award Rolls he is listed as 121 Siege Battery R.G.A., gunner 179289, receiving the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. By the time of the 1920 Electoral Register for North Lopham he was still listed as an absent voter - so still in the military? - but by 1921 was listed as a resident. He died circa 1962 in North Lopham. He was buried there on 1 September 1962 - aged 72 years.
