Henry Harry COX, son of Robert COX (c. 1845-1920) and Elizabeth Phoebe SPEAR (c. 1851-c. 1923), was born on 11 May 1889 in South Lopham, Norfolk. Henry enlisted in Norwich on 25 March 1916. He joined the 10th Bedfordsire Regiment of Infantry on 3 April 1916, Private 28169, his home address given as Oak Tree Farm, South Lopham and occupation farmer. There are two references to his being transferred to the Hertfordshire Regiment but no dates can be found. At Dunkirk, on 2 February 1919, he departed France to return to England to prepare for demob from the Bedfordshire Regiment and dispersal at Thetford. He was placed on the Class “Z” Army Reserve on 10 March 1919, again with the home address of Oak Tree Farm. Henry was on the in 1918 Absent Voters List for South Lopham. He died on 1 May 1977 in Diss, Norfolk. He was buried circa 1977 in South Lopham. He is commorated in South Lopham- “In loving memory of / HENRY HARRY COX / born 11-5-1889 / lain to rest 1-5-1977 / Rest in peace.”
