Joe BULLEN, son of James BULLEN (c. 1855-c. 1921) and Emma LAST (1856-1940), was born on 29 Mar 1890 in Diss, Norfolk.1,2 He appeared in the census in 1891 at Shelfanger Road in Diss - age 1, living with parents James (34,grocer) and Emma (33).3 He appeared in the census in 1901 at Shelfanger Road in Diss - age 11, living with parents James (45, grocer) and Emma (44), and sisters Jessie (9) and Flora (6).4 He appeared in the census in 1911 at Shelfanger Road in Diss - age 21, assisting in business (grocery), living with parents James (55, general shopkeeper) and Emma (54), and sisters Emma Jessie (19, pupil teacher) and Flora (16).5 In 1914 the Electoral Register showed him living at Shelfanger Road - one room second floor furnished; landlord James Bullen [father], Shelfanger Road, Diss.
