PITCHER Rhoda Gardiner. 31 December [1883]. Administration of the Personal Estate of Rhoda Gardener Pitcher (Wife of Robert Pitcher) late of New Buckenham in the County of Norfolk who died 26 January 1881 at New Buckenham was granted at the Principal Registry under the usual Limitations to William Locke Byne of 12 Abchurch-lane in the City of London Accountant and lawful Attorney of the said Robert Pitcher now residing in the Colony of New South Wales. Personal Estate £589.
There is some confusion over the dates of deaths and marriages! Rhoda married Robert PITCHER in 1859, then Henry SCOTT in 1880 where her condition is widow. The 1883 probate record for her states, 'Wife of Robert Pitcher ..... granted at the Principal Registry under the usual Limitations to William Locke Byne of 12 Abchurch-lane in the City of London Accountant and lawful Attorney of the said Robert Pitcher now residing in the Colony of New South Wales'. (The 'now residing' indicates still living?) With the family name of Gardiner used in the forenames of many of the family members, making quite distinctive full names, there is little chance that there would be two people with the same name, also not with father's distinctive name (Henry Gardiner HART) and occupation (miller) the same. It is not possible to research the Robert PITCHER in New South Wales as there are several appropriately named people in records but with no other indications as to whether they are 'our' Robert PITCHER.
