Military:Horace was attested into the military on 7 October 1916 at Croydon, Surrey - and joined the Surrey Regiment, 26th Training Reserve Battalion, serv. no. 29267. In a supplement to the London Gazette on 23 August 1918 the following notice appeared: Special Reserve of Officers. The undermentioned, from Officer Cadet Units, to be 2nd Lte. 28th Aug. 1918: - ..... Horace Alfred Bardwell. Also in the London Gazette, on 16 April 1920 the following notice appeared: Bardwell, 2nd Lt. H. A. (Lt.) Resigns commn. and retains rank of Lt. [Presuamably this terminates his military service.]
Notes:On 3 July 1925 he left London on board the SS Chitral bound for Marseille. His home address was given as 13 Cemetery Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, his occupation commercial traveller. He travelled second class. He returned to London on 18 July 1925 on board the SS Mooltan. [A business trip?]
