Benjamin PRENTICE, son of Richard PRENTICE ( - ) and Charlotte SELF (c. 1837-c. 1924), was born c. 1870 in Burston, Norfolk. He appeared in the census in 1871 at Audly End, Burston, Norfolk in Burston - 1, living with parents Richard (40, farmer of 7 acres) and Charlotte (34), siblings Osborn (11), Reuben (10) and Rosetta (7), and great grandfather Thomas SELF (widower, 93).¹ He appeared in the census in 1881 in Burston - 12, scholar, living with parents Richard (50, farmer) and Charlotte (44), and step siblings Osborn C SHELDRAKE (21, coal porter), Reuben J SSHELDRAKE (19, agricultural labourer) and Rosilla SSHELDRAKE (17, dressmaker).²
